TWoS - must-have options to select

Hi
playing the TWoS mod, really a great mod!
Now, the OptionsFileEditorViewer seems to give acces to many additional things to select.

Can the veterans of TWoS point me to things that I are a must-have?
So far I selected the SH3 dials, way better then SH5 version. Wonder why that is not the standard.

It already depends on the level of realism you play.

Do you also use "Twos real navigation"?

it would help us to get an idea of what you are looking for to best indicate to you

A sorry, set the game to 100% realism.
And yes I use real navigation, I haven't turned down any realism settings afaik.

Not a veteran, but things I tweaked:
- Crash dive time delay (longer at first, shorter as crew gains experience)
- RealNav navigator error and time to calculate position
- ShipsJournal lets you select captain's name and U-Boat hull number
- and something that is absolutely crucial to me because I mod more than play, I disabled SOAN. Now if you just play the game I recommend to keep it enabled, but if you are modding or testing some changes and need to relaunch game often, disabling SOAN cuts down dramatically on game load time.

The only reason why I use and will ever use SH5 dial UI is because the compass is way too inaccurate. You can't select an accurate heading by clicking on the compass, even if you enlarge his size.
Otherwise yes I would prefer the SH3 dials but this only problem make me stick to SH5 one

For important option in Options FileEditor :

UI:
UI used in game : SH5 Enhanced

I'm like you, the SH5 UI is... is... really not immersive... but for precision you can't do without it.

At the beginning I had the same thought as you but you will quickly see by dint of playing that it is complicated for certain things, but mods exist to improve SH5 Ui, I personally use "Alpheratz addon" here is what it looks like concerning the gyro-compass.

You have GSE v1.2.5a by GrenSo, use a gyrocompass too. Really good mod!

HUD:
Integrate the fuel, battery, compressed air, and CO˛ interface into the HUD : False

I removed this because all this information is accessible in the U-boat, I also removed this information on the menu of the submarine. On the picture above you can see what it looks like.

Radio:
Show contact actual's speed and course.

I prefer that they tell me the convoys via radio without too much precision, therefore with the cardinal points and relative course. Less precise but more immersive.

SCOPE:

the periscope indicators are really not really immersive, so I removed them. Disabling the lock as well.

RealNav:

Ah ! my navigator ! :ahoy:
where is my luger ?

He's dead, and I got his sextant, Almanacs and Nautisches Jahrbuch. :salute:

XO TDC :

He is dead too :yep:

Thanks guys.

Is there an option to adjust the color of things drawn like distance for example?
There seem to be options under Marks but I think they do not apply to the tools.

Rosco74 08-19-22 07:17 PM

This is the tutorial you need for colors :

Changed that now already twice but still the game shows U-** and Eisen Wolf.
Do I have to be in the bunker or how do I make it stick?

You don‘t need to be in bunker, because this are only text files from you current save games.
Do you start the file editor with admin rights and accept all changes with yes/ok? With more save points, you get more queries. For me it is e.g. if I change the boat number I get usually around 20 confirmations.

BigDuke66 08-21-22 08:37 AM

Didn't try admin rights on the editor, will check that and see if it sticks now.

Don’t feel too bad about the water level indicator from an immersion/realism perspective. The real Standsehrohr C/2 had a height indicator (circled). The commander also had a depth gauge up in the tower so at a glance he could see keel depth on the bulkhead (sometimes a gauge, sometimes a Papenberg) and the scope height on this circled dial.
