RSR Mission 12 Glitch

Hi all, long-time player and viewer, new poster.

I've had an immense amount of joy playing the Red Storm Rising campaign, but I have a problem with mission 12, Time on Target.

After I attack with my TLAM's and start my escape and evasion, my boat sometimes drifts to the seabed then gets "stuck", and after about 30 seconds disappears entirely!

Any clue as to what's going on?

Will D.

Very bizzare, I've never heard of such a thing happening in any scenario

:o :o :o :o

I'm guessing you've been hit and killed by RBU's, but the collision/damage bug didnt display any damage.

Sorry about not looking up the RBU data myself, but would the RBU's have a range that could cover the circumference of the launch area circle?

No, it's just a few miles. But there is a Grisha that spawns among the fishing vessels to emulate the plot of the book; it might be closer than you expect.

edit: depth charges from the May can also do the same thing, but he'll drop his torps first so 30 seconds after the strike seems unlikely.

I think I'm gonna try to install FRAPS and get it on video if it happens again (so far it's happened every single time.) I saved the mission right after my TLAM launch, then hit the cargo ship with a TASM, and 3 harpoons at the northern ship. I then go to about 400 ft, leaving about 150 or so under my keel, and run at 22 kts NW. But invariably, no matter which way I go, I end up slowly settling to the bottom (and I saw one of the AI friendly subs do it also) then stopping. Even if I blow ballast tanks I can't move. But my boat shows no damage, and when I turned on truth I saw no DC's or Torps, or RBu's anywhere near me. After settling on the bottom my boat disappears, the station selection windows go grey, and my speed/heading/depth readings become dash marks.

What you describe is completely consistent with being killed without any damage registering...

I am happy to report the sinking of a Soviet cargo ship, Soviet frigate, Soviet corvette, and the downing of one IL38 May ASW aircraft with no loss to my command!

Whew, re-loaded and made it after 2 more tries. I saw the May dropping depth charges this time, I think that's what got me. I tunnel-visioned into a high-speed dash on my previous attempts and he picked me up pretty easy.

After reigning in my CO (hey, I can play exec sometimes, right?), we kept a slower, perpindicular course and exited the area of operations.

Now, how to get that next Ruskie sub........

:)

Congrats! Glad you're enjoying my missions.

Is this the mission where you have to attack the airfield with TLAM's?
If so, I can't inflict enough damage even firing TLAM's from ALL my tubes!
