Subsim Chat channel

Ahoy captains! :salute:

Dowly has set up a new chat channel for Subsim members to use. It's very easy to use, and you are welcome to join in.

Subsim Chat channel

********

The channel will be used for our enjoyment, and we will hold scheduled chat events, to be announced.
It is also very useful when setting up multiplayer games.

********

Keep in mind, when you join the channel, if there is no one there, leave the channel open for a while to give others a chance to join you. To "ping" someone in the chat, just say for example ''Hi HunterICX'' (if you write something with someone's Nick he'll get a ping sound on his end).

Same rules and etiquiete apply as in the forums, please be nice, friendly, and civil.

Be advised, the chat nicknames are not tied into the forum system, so we are all on the honor system to use our real forum names. This is a moderated channel so if someone is being disruptive, they will be banned. Your forum account is not connected to the chat server, so please use your correct forum name or a nickname by which you are known. Moderators can see who people are even if they use a fake name. If we have people acting immature and impersonating other members, suspension will carry over into the forums. Let's act like real submarine men, guys.

HOW TO RESERVE YOUR CHAT NICKNAME
If you want to lock in your chat name, so that no one else can use it, then you will want to set it up.

Steps:

1. Connect to the Subsim Chat channel

Enter your desired nickname. Spaces are not allowed, but capital letters are; so for example, I am OnkelNeal

Do not check the box Login to Services
That's not needed until after step two. Go ahead and Connect

.
2. Once you are in the channel, enter
/msg nickserv register password emailaddress

Put in a simple password and your email. There is a space between the pw and email.
So, for example you might type in: /msg nickserv register basher5 subguy@gmail.com
NOTE: IRC nicknames are global, so it's likely some Call of Duty player may have your forum nick, so it is suggested you add _SS. For example, if your forum name is Charlie, then you may want to try Charlie_SS

You will see your password and email in the chat, but as long as you type it in as explained, no one else can see it. Use a simple password that is different from your forum password, if you like.

Then check your email, it will give you a string to enter into the chat, and then your nickname is set in stone. There won't be any false SailorSteves or Jimbunas to deal with

Then next time you go to chat, you will want to check the box Login to Services and enter your password.

Maybe its the Werewolf Hunt we we're going to start earlier this year. Neal was up for it but not enough people signed up....

Maybe its a countdown to SHO or something.

Or maybe, it will be a long and mean April fools joke?

Spitballing ideas here. :06:
