No credit for sunk ships

So its July 31st 1944 I'm in Grid BF17 and i just sunk two large troop ships (not together they where both speeding by unescorted one at a time) and after sinking the the second one with my deck gun I noticed that I had not received credit for sinking it. i thought maybe it needs a moment to realize its going under but after about 5-10 minutes of waiting after she slipped beneath the waves I decided to reload an old save and see if it just glitched and may fix itself. Well 4 trys later with both torpedoes and deck gun attacks I cant seem to get the game to give me credit for the ship.

If anyone has any idea why this may be I would greatly appreciate the help.

I've had this problem... I attacked a convoy, sank 2 ships. I saved and ended the game in the normal way.

Like a fool, I began playing with my mod soup while still on patrol.

I load up and play the game. Two ships come by, I sink them and they never register.

Turns out they were the same ship type I sank in the convoy earlier!

Do not play with your mods while out on patrol. It will mess up your gameplay.

so your sayin its the game spawning the ship in again even thought its already sunk? That's really odd but i guess its explains what happened, though I haddent left the game between ships.

Did you mod between saves? If so they can be ships from a different engagement!

No I have not messed with my mods in like 15 patrols

The game can reload sunk ships, if it scripted to have that ship sail again. So if you happen to sink a specific ship (warship),and still are on patrol when that ship is scheduled to sail again, you might see it sail by. I think I got the Hood twice in one patrol once.

As to your original question, Weather and other game elements can impart damage onto ships. If the weather was bad, it could cause the last few hp's of damage to the nearly sinking ship, robbing you of the kill. Other times, other vessels or planes can get that last hit in, again stealing your kill.

well its nice to know the Atlantic can steel my kill lol, though i believe it was the first thing because the seas where like glass it was so calm during the attack

it happens to me a lot that I will sink respawned ship and waste the torpedo and deck gun ammo on it. Last time it happened to me on current patrol that I sunk two Large merchants and some hours after that I saw a convoy and another Large merchant. Lucky me, I said and sunk the merchant first...and was pissed of that it was just duplicate ship and got no credit for my work.

I wish that there would be some mod or fix to mark the duplicate ships so I will not waste my torpedoes and ammo on them...

It might be a little cheaty but you could save before engaging and if it ends up being a duplicate you didn't know of you could just reload the save and ignore it. Again a little cheaty but better than wasting munitions and enjoyment on a regular basis

Imho it is not cheaty because game should give you credit for sinking the ship or make no duplicates first. The problem with saving before attack is that you still risk that the savegame could be corrupted so the game will crash if you load it after finding the duplicate ship.

I've found two saves is pretty safe to go with (may be different for others just my experience) and just use a third before a... suspicious target for lack of better phrase. Because only my newest save is ever corrupted.

kinda off topic

okay hears a question, has anyone ran into escort carriers without collisions (I think that's what I'm tryin to say) anyway I just put two torpedo's in a American bogue class carrier... or would have if they didn't sail clear through it without detonating. (the torpedoes worked perfectly not running deep, no premature detonation, nothing) They just phased through it. its happened to me once before same ship same Nationality (not sure if that part matters or not)

I have sunk this type of carrier before so its weird that occasionally this happens

Try not to save while ships are in contact range, it will frequently corrupt your save.

I did not know that, thank you for that information :)
