That's actually what some of us were looking for with SH3's 'WE Assistance'. Does he get any better with repeated sightings?

The only one I have not found so far is "depth under keel", forcing me to guesstimate based on the map.
can you use the atlas-echolot at the navigators table?

I expected that. That's part of making the game less intimidating to casual gamers. Most people (ie, not us) who play this game will do at the easier realism levels, so just need the basic interface explained. Big manuals mean complex games to most people. I'm actually surprised it's as big as that.

I remember having friends who were very interested in playing Advanced Squad Leader or Star Fleet Battles - till I pulled out the manuals, that is. That was the end of that.

Is there a way to input range manually without the stadimeter?

yes, which is a big improvement in my book. You can use the stadimeter or plug in any number you want.

I have not had enough time to tell. I presume it must be tied in to their "skill levels". Everyone starts on level 1.

I am actually very pleased that he does not give a 100% accurate solution, that would take all the challenge out of the game.

I confirm there is lightning, I am just not quick enough to snap a shot of it.

chasing PQ17, heading into a storm and it looks like its going to be hairy, the sky has been getting increasingly darker.

All my favorite memories of SH3 involved standing on deck in stormy weather...:arrgh!:

@Bilge-Rat:

Does your watch-crew wear "oilskin" in stormy conditions? Does it use the binoculars. Do you get (visual and acoustic)contact reports by your crew?

not yet, but it has not rained yet. I believe in SH3 you needed a real strom before the oilskins came out. No binocs.

yes, I have gotten both visual and sonar contacts, but the crew is still at level 1.
