Time for a Torino - '69 Ford Torino

After the Ohio, I decided to switch things up and work on a low stress project!

1969 Ford Torino, cheap kit, looks really easy. Back in my youth I owned three Torinos: '70 Cobra, '72 Sport, and '75 S&H. The '69 was the best NASCAR model, they made a special version named after the Talladega track.

Will try to match the sheen of the paint job that guy did on the Tamiya Morris Mini Cooper you posted, ET2SN.

Low stress project? Rgr that. Will it be a exhibition later...👍

A majority of the plastic kit I have made have been Warships or modern Fighter jet.

Since some year back I've started to build cars and my latest build is an unfinished motorcycle.

Revell is about to release A Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1:8 length 62.5 cm.

The problem is there's other more important thing I need to take care of before even considering buying this model.

:D

If you decide to go crazy on the Torino, check that link for Detail Master.
Wait and see how the kit "builds" first.

Meanwhile, I have the 1/18th Shelby GT 350 die cast parked until some parts show up.

:Kaleun_Salivating:

My normal source for die cast sent an e-mail with some Close-out models they wanted to unload, one of which was a Torch Red 2010 Mustang priced under 30 dollars. This Mustang caught my eye because its basically Stock but has the "shock tower brace" installed above the engine. The brace doesn't make sense for this car, its one highlight is the 5 liter V-8.

But, the Shelby didn't have one. It will, soon. :D I guess the other argument is that I need a Torch Red Mustang in the collection to join its six siblings on the shelf. :haha:

So, I took last night to tackle the Purple Monster, the 1997 classic Mini. This is my first Solido die cast and its cheap but well executed. The paint is really quite good. The windows all needed polishing and cleaning and I wanted to make some small color changes to the interior. The white accents on the steering wheel and shifter are now Light Ivory plus I added Tamiya XF-57 Buff as the main interior, shift boot, and headliner color. Metallic Purple and White is tricky to match but this came out nicely. I also added some P/E bezels to the small gauges and I need to order a 3/16ths inch aluminum tube to cut out and polish the large gauge bezels. :yeah:

Oh, my Platz NUNU showed up today from Japan. :D This is the 1/24th scale Porsche 935 K3 (Lemans winner) and its hard to believe that I finally have one in the stash. I'll build it some day, but for now its just fun to look at.

Also on the drawing board, I might have found a cheap source of mirror-look mylar sheets. This is a "room décor" kit for adding a cheap self-stick mirror to a dorm room or prison cell, but it should re-purpose well as mirrors for model kits and die cast. :D I'll write about it once its in my hot little hands.

Looking fwd to seeing it.

Primed all the paint parts, then sprayed flat black on the chassis part and the hood.

Used gloss black on the vinyl parts, seats, and door panels. Have to wait for the new dash decals to go any further on the interior.

Got the engine together, wheels on.

Next, paint the body. Should I use an enamel? I hear that enamel is really durable and produces a great finish...

Oh boy, the gauge decals just arrived, that was quick!

Onkel Neal 06-07-22 07:26 AM

Ugh, they are not water decals, this is not going to be easy!

Check your PMs. I think I found what you're looking for. :Kaleun_Cheers:

So, got derailed a bit with other projects but I think I'll get back on this today and finish it. Decals went on pretty easily, now I'm set to mask off for chrome application then assemble the remaining parts.

Well, that was funny, I took a little break. :k_confused:

So, I was so so triggered by working on the scale model of a Torino, I launched a project to expand my garage workshop and procure a real 1970s Torino. :k_confused:

The garage project was to lengthen my existing garage 14 feet, so I would have room for the car. That was real construction, the bids I got were in the $40,000 range, so I did most of the work myself, cost was around $17,000.

Then the search for the Torino... that took a while. I may make another thread on that, not sure how many people in Subsim are interested in American Muscle cars...

But yeah, back to the 69 Torino Cobra model that stared all that... returned to it this weekend and wrapped it up. Funny thing, the chassis didn't really align with the wheels, so that had me scratching my head for a bit. Watched a few videos of guys making this car and they highlighted the same issue. Well, a little tweaking, I made it fit :)

Don't use parts from the real car on the model. :O:

So, a $20 investment in a model kit cost you how much? :)
Then again, you can't go out for burgers in a 1/25th scale kit.

I think you have Marcus and I beat. :Kaleun_Cheers:
