Voice recognition software.

Besides sub sims, I also enjoy flight sims with Falcon 4 BMS being my favorite.
There are a LOT of menu command keystrokes in flight sims and besides trying to remember them all, taking the time to do them on a keyboard can easily lead to disaster in a flight sim. :)
But there are two outstanding programs that allow one to use voice activation instead. One is inexpensive payware and one is BMS user made.
Voice activation of keystrokes for me in SH3 is like what TrackIR or Virtual Reality have done for flight sims; once you try it there's no going back.

On a related note, with the much more powerful computers available today vs when SH3 was released, it is way past time to get rid of the ahistorical, though understandable, mini-convoys in the game. The "Happy Times" single mission is closer to what they should be at a minimum.

I've slowly started on the NYGM convoys, basically doubling them and their escorts in number.

It is very easy to do, though also very tedious to do, in the mission editor plus simming is a winter activity for me so don't count on me finishing it until then. :D
So far the results are good but one item still prominantly stands out. Even with H.sie's outstanding work, there are still not near enough wolfpack attacks in the game. Off the Iberian peninsula one rarely if ever gets one also, when historically there were many pack attacks there. Pack attacks were the norm, not the exception for much of the war.

With more historically correct convoy/escort numbers, pack assistance may be much more important vs having x+ escorts focusing solely on the player, i.e.

I tried doubling the number of subs via the campaign.scr file in H.sie's mod, thinking that might be a lucky cheap fix, but it didn't change anything.
One could just add more subs to convoys ala the NYGM .rnd file method, but via H.sie's mod would be more "realistic".
Anyway, something for the future. :) Or if it rains a lot this summer maybe I'll do it then.

John,

Ambitious project. Much luck in completing it. :yeah: :salute:

Good hunting,

John, are you familiar with "scripting", either via "010 Editor", or with PythonScript added to Notepad++? You could do some "recursion" with a script that could "step" through your groups and alter them. I'm reasonably certain that Jeff-Groves could do you a script for that rather easily, but he is most likely into the busiest time of the year where he works, and probably doesn't have time to think, much less code something...

No, I don't know anything about scripting. I've been doing it via the mission editor, group properties dialog, and then clicking on each ship and changing it from 1 to 2.
Did I say tedious ? :D
