Thank you, everyone!

I'm currently trying to decide if I'm going to buy myself a new telescope with the money I've received as birthday gifts. It's moderately expensive, but within my budget. The wife would rather I get an electronic drum kit. Mostly so I can accompany her ukulele playing. :haha:

Get the telescope, mate - with nearly every ad on TV now accompanied by somebody whistling and playing a bloody ukelele, I'd rather you did nothing to encourage her :Kaleun_Salute:

Well, I bought the telescope. Then, the wife and I were about to go visit my mother and have some steamed shrimp that she was making. That's when we discovered that the tub and toilet were backing up. I spent a couple hours snaking the drains. After that, my mother and her husband came over to check it out. He's a handyman of sorts and helped me diagnose the problem.

Looks like we're going to have to replace a lot of old, rusty pipes. Probably going to cost a small fortune. Right after I spent a mint on a new toy. One of the joys of owning an old house, I guess.

I suppose it's lucky that we're both on vacation this week. But this is not how I wanted to spend my vacation, my birthday or my money. C'est la vie.

So... while we were looking for the sewer clean out, we found that the cast iron shroud around my gas cutoff was broken. Had the gas company look at it and they said it should be fine, but they'll be out to replace it sometime in the future.

The plumber arrived this morning and water jetted the drain. He said he went all the way to the street and he thinks the problem might be on the city's side. Now my tub is full of the blackest water you've ever seen and I'm waiting for the public works dept. to come check the clean out, which neither I nor the plumber could even find.

This vacation sucks.

Finally got the drain issue sorted and was able to make it to mom's for the steamed shrimp ... and king crab and snow crab legs! :yeah:
