Setting up my own server?

Hey guys. I've been trying to get my own little online campaign going with a couple of guys that I know. However, I'm not really sure where to begin.

How do you guys do it?

If you have a Router, make sure you have the Ports open for IL2.

(if you dont know how, here is a good website -
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
look for the router in the index and then look for IL2 1946 and there is a step by step how to do it)

now if the porst are open its easy,

first share your IP with the friends you want to play with,
IL2 has port 21000 so you have to put that behind your IP
for example ''80.12.253.432:21000''

Launch IL2 1946,
click Multiplayer in the Main Menu.
Create Server - select the button with Dogfight and change that to Campaign.
click ''Create'' and give a shout the server is up and running.
select a campaign from the list, and set dificulty.
click Start and the map loads, now when the map has been loaded you have the briefing and ofcourse a button Aircraft, select an aircraft from the list and then you can click ''ready''(warning: as a HOST do not click READY on the right bottom of the screen untill EVERYONE has joined the server, as when you click ready the server will be closed for everyone who still tries to get in)

Now, if you click ready you see a screen with your friends and behind the name it sais Ready if everyone has Ready you can click fly and the game starts.

Yes, the campaign is autosaved after each mission. When you want to continue the campaign, just start an online campaing normally and when you get to the campaign selection screen, scroll all the way to the bottom. You should see you campaign there labeled as "In progress" or something like that.

Awesome. Thank you guys. I'd still like to fly with you. If I could ever figure out the damn time difference.

Hey guys i have another question. Me and a Friend have been trying to connect to each other on IL2. I've been connecting to him and he has his 21000 port open; but i can not connecto him(i am on a modem only so i shouldn't need to). You guys know any way to get past this?

HunterICX 08-15-08 03:58 AM

Hey, welcome Killpo1

As a Modem user you should be able to HOST a game with him able to connect without changing anything in the settings.

if you are not able to connect to him, it might be that the port hasnt been opened properly yet, the port that should be open is the ''UDP 21000*''(reboot router perhaps? check Firewall as well)

*Will have to check at home which Ports I have open for IL2

The both of us were trying to see if we could play together. We obviously didn't have any luck. I went and opened port 21000. I even set up a static IP. He keeps timing out when he tries to connect.

Only I need to have DCG right? I really just want to say screw it and play with you guys. Haha.

EDIT: Woot! Got it!

Suicide Charlie 08-15-08 05:06 PM

How do you guys get around not being able to hear Teamspeak transmission over the engine? It seems like there's a program that incorperates one into the other making communication smoother?
