Hello again fellow cap'ns.
I have a couple of problems that i could not solve by myself and my forum searches failed to return a proper solution for me. I would be very grateful if you could help me Problem 1: Ship recognition manual (the book, SOAN) fails to filter by number of stacks (or chimneys :). When you try to filter by it, it shows no ships at all. Please see screenshot 1 below Problem 2: RAOBF scale error. I think this has been mentioned earlier but i was not able to find a solution. In the tutorial RAOBF practice i measure the optical height and the optical length of the ship and find some discrepancies. These differences causes errors in measurements. For example measuring the optical height as 12 in my case instead of 10.6 (which was the value suggested in tutorial) returns a lower range. Please see screenshots 2 and 3 below http://s18.postimg.org/uy47opl79/SH5...9_10_34_03.png http://s18.postimg.org/8uyxo4sk5/SH5...9_10_37_13.png http://s18.postimg.org/mrc7x4v4l/SH5...9_10_42_11.png |

I don't know what tutorial says but angular height of that ship is ~12 deg which means that ships distance is about 1000m , everything OK there. Maybe tutorial scripts are optimized for different mission with different ship? |

Or start external cargo test mission, sink a few ships with torpedoes (don't use deck gun) , surface the boat and sail for some time around lifeboats... Try this few times and report findings... |
scapa flow

G'day All,...can anyone tell me if neutral ships ever run at night with lights? So far I have never seen any ships, neutral or otherwise running with lights at night except for searchlights after being attacked.:salute:

Hi KS
I believe I remember seeing a large hospital ship (troop transport type with a big cross on the side ) in South Western Approaches with lights but it is not a Neutral. Peter |
Hi Peter.....I've never managed to spot one running with lights yet. Sometimes you have to give up a good firing position to get a positive ID of the flag.
Recently I took a 7 klm+ manual shot in bad weather with 2 torpedoes at a Destroyer without any real expectations of success. I was pretty chuffed with myself when both torps hit the target smack on with spectacular explosions and fire .....only to find out later that it was a friendly Type34!!!!! Now I make every effort to be sure that it's the bad guys I'm actually sinking....:D |

I got ordered to a square just outside London and sink ships like there s no tomorrow but that doesn t help the eastern coast objective. Guess I won t be ace either :D |
Has anyone been reassigned another grid to patrol after completing the required time within the allowed radius of the assigned grid?
I was doing the Eastern British Coastal Waters mission and completed the required time then stuck around some more waiting. I then did the Scapa Flow mission before the end date expired and then returned to the assigned grid once again.(AN7953 near London from memory). After weeks on station with more than the required 70k tons sunk, and without getting anywhere near the red EBCW line on the map, I gave up and returned to Wilhelmshaven with the Captains Log unchanged and mission incomplete.:wah: I then had to edit the campaign files to be able to get the next patrol. Regards.....:salute: |
Regarding optional patrol grid missions I've noticed that they can't be completed if I save and reload the game AFTER I enter patrol zone area (in the Atlantic is 200km radius zone for 72 hours ). If I spend 72 hours in the zone without save /reload then mission will be accomplished and I'll be reassigned to another patrol area , maximum is three times...
And for your second problem , could you upload for me your last game save folder from Documents/SH5/data/cfg/ SaveGames? |
Any problems with the tonnage bar filling up with this mod list ?

I seems that problem is not modlist/snapshot related. It's completely random, some people have it, some don't... |

Hello,
I have a little problem. I chose a mission and it directed me to AN1814 patrol area. First, I just see AN18 grid with no second pair of numbers visible anywhere, so I don't know where to look for the "14". In other words, I can get to AN18 easily, but I don't know where to look for AN1814. Second, if I click on the "mission icon" nothing happens. While in the bunker it showed the location I was supposed to get but once in the boat clicking on the same icon has effect. I'm not very expert at modding so I'm using Wolves of Steel megamod. I've just sunk 2 ships within AN18 area but the objectives still show as incomplete. What should I do? EDIT: I've published the same post in Open Horizon II thread. My apologies but I do not know where this issue belongs. |

I try to keep the number of save games to a minimum as twice on previous patrols, (once prior to installing TWOS, and once after), all save games including autosave became corrupted after a certain point and would CTD when trying to load. On both occasions that this happened, the two things common were: many save games and also an uncredited plane crash in the area. Not sure if it was the number of saves or the crashed plane (saved well out of visual range) or both that caused the corruption, but after going back and finding a previous save that loaded and deleting the saves prior to and after,(and staying out of sight of any aircraft that might decide to crash just for the hell of it) the game seemed to work normally again. With regard to the Tonnage bar and Campaign progression, has anybody just used the "Continue Campaign" option exclusively to reload their game from the start? The reason I ask is that I decided to use this option on one patrol for the sake of "realism" instead of Sober's "Dead is dead" mod (which I gather is completely terminal):dead: Everything including Tonnage bar, reposition orders etc was working perfectly until I decided to see if my Flack gunner had shown any signs of improvement after his promotion, by staying on the surface during an air attack. Unfortunately for the the crew and I, he was still as useless as tits on a bull and we were promptly dispatched to the seabed on short notice with the autosave deciding to do it's thing right then. Lying on the ocean bottom, with batteries and anything else able to help us back to the surface ruined, boat full of smoke, sparks and seawater and all the crew flatly refusing to lift a finger to help including the cook, my resolve started to weaken and instead dying and becoming born again with a new career, I decided to load my save game!! From that point on, all of the campaign progress automation stopped working. This game has so many files duplicated and triplicated throughout the various folders, I'm wondering if there is some other linkage to campaign progression that is now being bypassed with normal game saves under certain conditions that has been introduced by some small, inadvertent change somewhere within the file structure. When I start my next patrol, I'm going to just use the "Continue Campaign" option to load the game and see if anything in the aforementioned observation is repeatable. BTW....Fantastic to see Sober, Gap, Stormy and TDW visiting this forum during the past couple of days!!!:yeah: |
