GTX 580 Superclocked

Well not a good weekend, last November I purchased a GTX 470 card, good performance, they run hot and loud with SH4 and SH5. I fried it this past weekend attempting to install a quieter and more efficient cooling solution.

So in a fit of anger I broke my own rule and purchased an EVGA GTX 580 superclocked! WOW!

My CPU is a AMD Phenom II 955 BE, so I really thought that this would be the choke point to the performance of a top line video card solution.

OS is Win 7 Pro 64 bit with 8 gigs of ram.

So here are my results using FRAPS, this is SH4 UBM plus OM and OMEGU.

Were plying the Atlantic in a full blown storm, wind and rain.

On the bridge, 160 FPS

Inside the boat and at the map 240 FPS

The GTX 470 would render a nice 30 to 40 FPS in similar circumstances.

Conclusion: If you can afford it and are an Nvidia fanboi (I is one!) this thing is the answer to a bad marriage. Plus it runs much cooler and much quieter!

Happy Hunting!

That is some MINDBLOWING performance! :o

I have a stock GTX470 and I am happy with it, although it can get quite noisy as you said.

All I can say is happy superclocked-ultra-high-performance-at-160-FPS hunting! :DL

hmm, wounder the performance difference from a 580 and a 480 super clocked is.

the 470 and the 480 has been discontinued prior to the release of the 580 and 570. if your wondering about the diffrences in them go to www.nvidia.com and find them under products and compare the details, theres just more in clock speeds in the 500s then the 400s they both use the same new chipset. there isn't too much of a diffrence but the 500 series do make an impact. i wouldn't recomend buying the 580 superclocked based on their price. you come out way better (if you plan to spend it) buying two 570s which will run you about $200 more but will out-perform a single 580 superclocked or not. but in anycase if your mother board isn't compatible with sli then go with what you want in the end. 500 series cards are excellent cards and most of the time these are the performance jumps you will see with these cards. i recently had 3 9800 gtx+ 512s in 3-way and didn't even come close to the performance i get with two 570s and way quieter and cooler. so if any of are thinking of buying them. they are worth it.:salute: :yeah:

The 400 (Fermi 100) series was not a great success; the Fermi 110 is a completely different story.

Another thing to keep in mind and I have mixed feelings on this one. I purchased my card from Amazon and it comes with a three year warranty. If you purchase direct from EVGA you get a lifetime warranty. Second, to qualify for their EVGA Step Up program you have to get the card either direct from them or purchase additional product insurance through them at the time you register your product and register for the Step Up program.

It just an FYI for those that are EVGA fanbois (I am one), there are other vendors that also have good 500 series cards.

Never has the ocean in SH4 flowed this smoothly! Oh and I run this at 1920 by 1080 on a 23" LCD.

yea, I dont think i could try program thing, as i got the their program thingy, as i got it from EVGA thought Newegg...:damn: But i got the card in april of last year, I think it only covers if you got it in the last 90 days.

It has the same chip set so no noticeable difference I have an over clocked GTS450 put them side by side And you wont see a difference in game play that's for sure

Well except for price that is :nope:

You are kidding right :hmmm:

you have to buy them from approved evga sellers like tigerdirect. i got all my evga (video-cards and motherboard) stuff from tigerdirect and i was able to opt up for the upgrade to the x58 motherboard that was a year ago and my videos cards which was this year. i tried purchasing from amazon and they screwed around too long and i had to cancelle the orders and ordered from tigerdirect and they were at my house 4 days later. i believe they are still running the buy a 500 series card now and get the 3dbenchmark for free. all you do is copy your invoice from where you bought it, submit it and they will email you a yay or nah cuz i think its limited cant remember if it is or not.:salute:

i took screenshots in sh4 in stock trim after a clean install because i've been alittle agrovated with downloading fotrs mod and getting to the end of the dl and it kicking me off on the fact that i don't have internet and i'm tethering it off my phone, but anyways i dont know how to post them in the thread but i'm getting between 230 and 260 fps in the command room and between 130 to 170 on the bridge and in external view giving the time of day and how many ships around and all that good stuff and out in the middle of no where . thats with anisotropic at 16 and aa at 16Q, sli using d3d9 threaded optimization on and all settings on high at 1920X1080 on 22in LCD. so these cards are awsome for these games and thats not even pushing them. i haven't even got them overclocked its just set to factory settings right now:rock:. :salute:

I picked up an EVGA GTX 560 Ti Superclocked from Amazon yesterday. Should be here between Friday and next Wednesday, plenty of time for me to register for the lifetime warranty.

You just have to know how EVGA works, which is to say, so long as you register your card with an -AR (or other select) ending serial within 30 days, they'll give you a lifetime warranty on it.

This will not be my first EVGA card, I had an 8800 GTS 640 that I bought in May 2007 but fried out on me a little over a year ago (12/2009). I had registered it and EVGA not only paid for me to send it back to them, they replaced it with the newer, cooler-running and much faster 8800 GTS 512 (which IMHO should have been named 9800 GTS). I trust EVGA (their service and responses have been nothing short of exceptional), and I will use them whenever possible from this point forward.

P.S.: The BFG 9800 GTX+ OC that I'm currently using was a gift...otherwise I'd still be running that 8800 GTS 512.
