If it will read other discs, try:Control Panel/Device Manager/DVD Drive/Roll Back Drivers,& REinstall Reboot. Ck manufactures site for up dated driivers also.

It could also be that your drive has kicked the bucket!! If it's a drive fault try spraying the head with electronic cleaner or pure alcohol on a cotton tip, but be very gentle!:yep: You could also open your case and push the IDE Header plug in firmly, could have come adrift during transport etc!

I have XP Pro sp2 and don't have any trouble installing SH3 ,SH4 or even FSX.

Just a guess but, try turning off anti virus programs then try to install.

Try copying the DvD/CD onto your harddrive, and install from there. That sometimes works as a work-around.

I run Adware,it blocks registry changes

What happens when you put your SH4 Install DVD into another PC other than your desired gaming rig?

I hate to ask this (as its liable to start controversy) - but is this the original disk? Your thought of antipiracy makes me question. I have seen very often that a burned DVD or CD is burned at a speed higher than the media can handle - when this happens, often a drive cannot read it. This especially happens with older drives as their firmware is often out of date.

Due to part of my job involving software, I have seen us send out media that was burnt at a higher speed than it should have been, causing some older drives to be unable to read the data or TOC.

If its an older drive and your using the original DVD, then you can try flashing the firmware on your drive if you are confident.

ML has a good point - try the disk in another pc - if it reads you know its an issue of the drive vs the media itself. And to cover the obvious - check the media for scratches and such to insure its in a readable state.
