Volume Controls and Excel

For some odd reason my volume controls on my laptop open Excel.
If I hit mute, excel opens, if I slide the volume from one side to the other 15 windows of Excel open.

But if I change the volume, or mute the volume with my keyboard's control, or the remote that came with the laptop, excel doesn't open.

I'm assuming somewhere the volume controls became shortcut keys for excel, but I have no clue where, and how.

Anyone know how to fix it?

Btw I'm running the Excel 2010 beta.

Somehow the mapping of the controls have been associated with the excel exe. You need to look into what mapping tools for the kb came with the laptp - and then remap your audio controls properly.

What's the best way to do this?

A problem I might see is that if I open the Keyboard icon in control panel it opens the config for my wireless keyboard.(Which the volume controls are working fine for)

Usually the manufacturer has put a software tool on the pc to do it....

What kind of laptop is it? Dell/HP/etc or a local build?

Its an HP Pavilion dv6

Ok let me do some digging. I have a DV7 here which is almost identical (its my lady's) so I should be able to find it.

It would be much appreciated. The difference between the Dv6 and the Dv7 is the fact that Dv7's are quad core while the Dv6 is dual core. Other than that they're basically the same machine.

Not to bug, but did you ever find the file?

CaptainHaplo 02-10-10 08:11 PM

Your not bugging. I did not find anything - but be patient - as my girl's laptop is now acting up on that same panel (the volume control). It keeps thinking she is adjusting the volume one notch up and down constantly. May end up talking to HP before its done - and if I do I will ask them.

Okay, Thanks

Yesterday, after shutting down unnecessary processes in order to play games without lagging to death. I realized that my volume controls worked without starting Excel. So I figured it had to do with the Excel beta expiring.

Today, I try the volume again, and excel starts. So that's when it hits me that one of the processes I turned off yesterday was controlling it. I start turning off processes I normally turn off, and realize that one of them is IType, a program used for mapping the wireless keyboard I have/ do not use.

I turn off Itype, and Voila my volume works like it should. :yeah:
