Try this preview which includes Type VII (B and C) tweaks only.

Slightly increased up and down movement and fixed the side-rolling issue. The uboats doesn't ride as realistically and stable in smooth waters as the 1.0 did, but they behave much more realistic in storms. As far as I could test, the involuntary 10m dives are still fixed with these settings. So let's call this a compromise tweak!

DOWNLOAD 1.1 Preview (Type VII)

I honestly don't have time to test all the other subs at the moment. Sorry!

PS. I do believe that type VII were the only sub suffering from the vastly increased side-rolling. So it's entirely possible that just overwriting version 1.0 with the Type VII-fix will equal (more or less) the final build.

I don't need other boats as type VII, im riding only this type. (Just sometimes when i start at the war begining i choose flotila with type II, i like them too, but there's not too much improvements as for type VII, so that few missions from start of war is enough...)

Dirk Gently 12-12-18 02:40 PM

Yeah, me too. I sometimes start with Type II because I like the boats and to get a few short runs early on. Then I stick with VIIB or C for the remainder of the career. I don't really fool much around with Conning Towers, so I sometimes just stick with VIIB.

We be of one blood ye and I, "Atlantic canoe" is the best. :-)

JeromeHeretic 12-12-18 09:41 PM

This version looks much better.

With WAC v5.1 I always get CTD without warning!

Does WAC change the .sim files in the Submarines directory?

Niume 12-13-18 12:05 PM

I think so because you get the subtorpedeo error thingy.

Dirk Gently 12-13-18 12:44 PM

Well then, I can only explain what to do then.

Open the individual Data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat{XX}\NSS_Uboat{XX}.sim with SH3ditor and change the following;

IMPORTANT!! First create a backup of the .sim file you're about to edit!

https://i.imgur.com/Ckr1Dte.jpg

6: unit_Submarine -> obj_Hydro -> Debug
Mass needs to be 0,1 lower than Surface Displacement
gc_height = variable** (2,5 works for all subs but is particularly ideal for VII)
This setting affects side-rolling, so it doesn't feel as if the submarine is on rails. Higher number means more rolling. A good rule of thumb is to set this close to (Surface Draught /2). That is Surface Draught divided by two, rounded up to nearest 10th.

6: unit_Submarine -> obj_Hydro -> Debug -> Surfaced
Draught needs to be increased by 0,3 (type II, VII and XXI) and 0,2 (type IX)
6: unit_Submarine -> obj_Hydro -> Debug -> Surfaced -> Drag
UD=0,25 (0,20 for a "light" version)

Do this for all the playable submarines, and the fix is complete. Alternatively only mod the ones you're going to use, like I would if I weren't releasing it for download.

I actually can't play Silent Hunter without "Ship Camera" pointed at my Submarine during travel. It's almost as fun to watch the boat catch the waves as it is to encounter a contact. Particularly so with the tweaks I've come up with, which is the reason I obsessed about the surface behavior in the first place. I don't really dislike any of the subs, I just happen to love Type VII. After installing the German Uboat Compilation (and the type VII addon) I completely forgot all about SH5.

Very nice job , Dirk Gently :Kaleun_Applaud:

Just test it and is way more convincing than before. It really gives you the feeling of the heavy thing :yep:

Ha, ha, I've forgotten math :D
For me the new parameter should be mass=760.90 ;)

LR = 0,25
Is that necessary?
