Randomized Weather on Loaded Saves

A simple question. What governs the weather?

You can save the game in a career then reload the same spot and have different weather. Why?

I decided to give a particular encounter another try and loaded the point just prior to the encounter. I noticed instead of a monsoon I had clear skies. I reloaded it again and saw a monsoon again. I got the monsoon 3 out of 5 reloads but I do not know what governs this and why the randomness of the weather on loaded saves.

I'm not really worried about it I just wanted this answered for self knowledge.

I didn't know this happened.

It's a good question, but I don't have a good answer.

AFAIK, everything about the weather (frequency of changes, magnitude of changes, seasonality, etc.) would be in the mission/campaign files.

"would be in the mission/campaign files"

Campaign or campaignGE or both?

... and this is something that I thought would be saved in the game but I can reload it over and over and get either clear skies or the monsoon.:timeout:

Both. I've never tried to redo/mod campaigns. I'm going by missions files. There is the wind, clouds, rain parameters and how often, and how much, they are supposed to change.

I'm not sure the change frequency we input is always what the game uses. I recall I've had changes in less than what I used for the mission.

Whatever the deal is in the game, the whole weather system leaves a lot to be desired.

I have searched in the campaign and campaignGE folders but so far there is nothing about weather or sea states.

I went through the CFG folder.

So far I haven't found anything that saves environmental information at the specific spot of the save. It saves everything else about the player and the boat but I haven't found anything about saving environmental variables.

Ok, I opened up the a duplicate stock folder I keep. In the campaign folder, there are various ###.mis files and also in the patrol objectives folder, there are subfolder with various objectives files with the same format. If you open these with the mission editor, and check the mission tab and 'parameters' you have a dialog window with weather conditions, clouds, rain, fog, wind, and variations for all those, and also the change interval in hours (2 to 96).

This is the only thing I know of that we can use to manipulate weather selection/ changes. The odd thing I noticed in looking at several is that they all listed no changes and an interval of 5 hrs. Obviously, the weather does change at times, so maybe the most important factors are hard coded, with long-term weather (more than 96 hr. period) handled by the game in it's own way.

Call me crazy but I'm playing now with TMO 25 ONLY without RSRDC. It seems this mod -
campaign files-changes many things in TMO with collateral effects as the randomized weather. I load and reload my actual campaign and ever I have the same weather. When changed to 12 mts and heavy fog and saved the game - reload and I
had the same weather.

BTW I am tired of the RSRDC heavily scripted campaign and with only TMO I have a lot of funny action.

Best regards.

TorpX but have you discovered where weather information might be saved when a players saves their current progress and how this could change from load to load of the same save point?

No, I don't know about the saving.

Maybe you happened to save at a point as the weather was changing, or just before (meaning this is more or less a fluke). :06:

Honestly, I don't know what to do about weather that 'sticks' or changes too much. Not sure there is anything we can do about it.
