I've been given the order to attack neutral shipping which, without a doubt, are running for the Brits.
So do I just sink any ship in these waters (Eastern English waters)? Or do I just sink British ships? Or do I sink all ships MINUS the "officially" neutral ones (according to the Flag recognition chart, Sweden and Ireland are neutral)? And what about the neutral ones running with or without lights?
Thanks!

Watch your map for targets, Nations with red anchor = sink them. Nations with black anchor = Neutral/Friendly dont attack them.

Had the same situation at Operation Weserübung. Recived orders to attack any ships heading to Narvik port but it takes about one or two more days until Norway ports anchors were shown in red colour. After that i attacked Norway ships too. :salute:

Thanks!
So I just check the direction of the ship and sink whatever appears to head for an enemy port? Makes perfect sense, I guess.
But doesn't it rain havok on the renown system? It does not appear to take this, or the other aspects I mentioned, into account.
In the basic.cfg, it says

Code:

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10
WrongShipSunk=-5000
FirstRankRenown=1000
SecondRankRenown=3500
EndCampaign=-5000

Best,
Brett

It will most definitely...If you don't use Real Navigation and You are not sure which units should not be engaged, make a good use of "Map Contact Colors" addon for TWoS...

Attacks by the U.S. military

The first American hostile action against Axis forces was on 10 April 1941, when the destroyer USS Niblack attacked a German U-boat that had just sunk a Dutch freighter. USS Niblack was picking up survivors of the freighter when it detected a U-boat preparing to attack. The Niblack attacked with depth charges and drove off the U-boat. There were no casualties on board USS Niblack or the U-boat. By coincidence, USS Niblack was later in the same convoy as USS Reuben James when that ship was sunk, and picked up survivors from USS Reuben James.
The first American hostile action against Axis forces that resulted in physical destruction was on 14 September 1941, when USCGC Northland destroyed a German weather station in northeast Greenland. The action was based on an agreement with Danish Ambassador to the United States Henrik Kauffmann in April 1941 to patrol the Danish island.[11]
The first American-caused casualties occurred on 7 December 1941 when the USS Ward attacked and sank a Japanese midget submarine near the entrance to Pearl Harbor prior to the commencement of the Japanese air attack upon Hawaii later that day. As a result of the attack on Hawaii, America declared war on Japan on 8 December 1941. Germany and Italy declared war on the United States three days later.
The first planned offensive action by the United States in World War II came in January 1942 when the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise attacked Japanese bases in the Marshall Islands.

since I know you're very dedicated to realism I have an advice — German u-boats didn't attach the life belts at the conning tower during patrols at all. Exceptions were departure or refill at open sea in bad conditions. Maybe it's easy to delete it, but probably not. :D

Keep up your excellent work.

Werner.

Everything regarding gr2 format editing is very difficult and time consuming since we are lacking proper tools...Very few people know how to do this and unfortunately I can not say that I'm one of them...:wah:

Thanks!
I'll install that one then =)

Muckenburg, Not a bug. U.S. Navy ships did escort convoys before the U.S. entered the war. They would attack German subs just like any other escort would. One destroyer the USS Reuben James was sunk by U-552 on 31 October 1941 while performing escort duties on a convoy headed to England.

Upon the outbreak of war in Europe in September 1939, she joined the Neutrality Patrol, guarding the Atlantic and Caribbean approaches to the American coast. In March 1941, Reuben James joined the force established to escort convoys sailing to Great Britain. This force escorted convoys as far as Iceland, after which the convoys became the responsibility of British escorts. She was based at Hvalfjordur, Iceland, under command of Lieutenant Commander Heywood Lane Edwards.

On 23 October, she sailed from Naval Station Argentia, Newfoundland with four other destroyers, escorting eastbound Convoy HX 156. At daybreak on 31 October, she was torpedoed near Iceland by U-552 commanded by Kapitänleutnant Erich Topp. Reuben James had positioned herself between an ammunition ship in the convoy and the known position of a German "wolfpack", a group of submarines poised to attack the convoy. Reuben James was hit forward by a torpedo meant for a merchant ship and her entire bow was blown off when a magazine exploded. The bow sank immediately. The aft section floated for five minutes before going down. Of a crew of seven officers and 136 enlisted men plus one enlisted passenger, 100 were killed, leaving only 44 enlisted men and no officers who survived the attack.

Did you change the correct file using notepad.exe or even better use OFEV after installing TWOS

[drive-letter for example D:]:[location OFEV is] \....\Silent Hunter 5\data\Applications\OptionsFileEditorViewer

check this out:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...66&postcount=6

and Post #1 of TWOS link. The answer is out there somewhere. And no reason to stop using TWOS, it is so much better.

and TC setting should not be to high. I think the advise for stable gameplay is indeed a max. of 512 (there is a link somewhere on Subsim with a discussion of this issue)

Happy Hunting.

Kind regards,

:Kaleun_Salute:

yea I was in the main.cfg file and edited them but yea still stuck at 512 I just don't have the time for full SIM atm lol but ill give it a look and post back thankyou:)

That's not how I read the post from Excell. The Main point is the colour of the Port Icons in each country . Ships travelling in and out of any port is not a reliable way to determine Neutrality.

Muckenberg 12-03-17 11:22 AM

I know the history of World War II, but I did not know it was incorporated into the game. interestingly. But otherwise thank you for the explanation.

Muckenberg 12-03-17 11:47 AM

If you uninstall your game, have you deleted your saved games from the Ubi server and the folder in the documents?
