Introduction to Modding

Hi, I've searched the forums but nows the time to ask here: Are there any introductions to modding SH3? I have played with a lot of mods when I had problems, and hacked about a few text files when I patched my exe using the hsie mods, and I have a basic grasp of how mods work.

Fom what I can see, each mod is basically a child directory structure which overrides the stock directories. I have even made my very own basic mod to change the target icons on map view.

I have some conflicts with my mod soup, and I'd like to be able to get to the root cause of it. One thing I'm unsure of is how you can have so many duplicate .cfg files in the mods directory. Which ones are read first, and can you combine a bunch of files with the same name into one 'hybrid mod'?

I have loads of questions TBH, and was wondering if anyone had created any kind of modding documentation at all? :hmmm:

Thanks.

Glad to know you've lost the fear to mod, when I first did it I was about to wet my pants.
What you have to do is to use the JSGME. It's very nice app that allows you to enable a mod on top of your install in the order you prefer and if you don-t like what you ar eusing or what you did is not working, you can simply disenable it. Regarding your files, you have to take the time to compare them and see which one is the one you need.
Hope this helps, but in case you need more info, I am sure other kaleuns will give you more helpful advices.

Hi Harald_Lange,

just go to plissken04's FTP-server. There is a folder called "SH3 Tuorials". Some of them are in English, some in German. I think the best source to find a help.
