Airstrike.cfg question

What does "Logic Steps Between Air Sessions" do, and how does it work? Do I change this number (increase? decrease?) if I want to reduce the frequency of air patrols I encounter?

this is what i have in my notes:

Logic Steps Between Air Sessions=30 ;[>0] steps between air fighting sessions, 10*Logic Interval(90sec)

i've never attempted to change it because i do not understand the elements of the equation, such as what is an air fighting session and 10*(logic interval(which is 30 in this example)) cannot possibly equate to 90 seconds.

or i am just incredibly dim-witted.

my SWAG is that the lower one makes the value, more air fighting sessions will occur more often, but that is a only a SWAG.

let us know what you experience if you decide to make some changes.

on the other hand, if i HAVE experimented with the other parms in that file. if you wish to reduce air traffic you can (in no particular order):

  • lower the Maximum Aircraft Range
  • lower the Modifiers that follow the Maximum Aircraft Range to some smaller decimal (.001 should do nicely)
  • lower the Default Air Strike Probability. since it IS a probability, lowering it will help.
  • the Probabilities that follow Default Air Strike Probability are used in reaction to you calling additional attention to yourself, such as using your radio or being detected by a picket ship, something of that ilk. lowering any/all of those will further reduce air traffic since they are Probabilities.

typically, in the past, i have used the first two bullets above and have been satisfied.
good luck with whatever you choose to do.

What that means there fellows, is that each logical step is 90 seconds. So 30 x 90 equals 2700 seconds, which equates to another roll of the dice for each of the above "qualifiers" and equation modifiers every 45 minutes, which for me is too often. We increased that in FotRSU to 42, for every 63 minutes, which seems OK, though at times can still be too much. We had it at 50 cycles, but that is just a bit too long...

Hmm. I checked that value in my cfg file and the value is 24.
Here's the line from the files:

Quote:

Logic Steps Between Air Sessions=24
;[>0] Steps between air fighting sessions, 10*Logic Interval (90sec) [STOCK=10/FOTRSU=25]

And the file is located here: D:\Games\SH4\Data\Cfg

I'm running FotRSU 1.46, so I'm either looking at the wrong folder or something went wrong in the mod installation.

I love the mod btw, but the enemy air patrol aspect of it is downright frustrating at times.

Is it safe to edit this mid-patrol, or should I be in base first?

Just My thoughts here... :hmmm:

would say, do NO tampering, until firmly... & safely... in base. :yep:

& 2ndly... make sure to make a copy to work with... just in case... yanno... things go mushroom shaped... as in... BOOM.! :o  :hmmm:

rule #1: change nothing while on patrol.
rule #2: remember rule #1.

Thanks.
Guess I'll have to bear the unbearable lightness of enemy ASW patrols that can find me even in the darkest nights, until I get back to Pearl.

Thank you. I had a rather exciting session in the shallow waters of the South China Sea, less than 200', evading an angry escort after I had sent a 17000t whale factory ship to the bottom. One of the many patterns he dropped came rather close for comfort but after an hour or three (game time) I managed to give him the slip.
