First Time Coldwaters - Play it stock or go straight for Dot Mod?

Been away for a while due to giving up the 9-5 grind and moving country which didn’t allow me to devote any time to campaign games.

Is it worth playing Cold Waters as it comes out of the box once for a newbie or should I go straight to Dot Mod?

I installed dotmod specifically for the ability to play surface ships.
If your only interested in operating subs then I don't think its necessary
Take a look at the list of numerous features and changes that dotmod brings and I think you will be able to make that choice.

You should definitely install dot mod. Double the possibilities of the base game. And it’s constantly evolving. That’s my modest suggestion. Greetings!.Marcelo:up:

I would say play without mods first, before you decide whether you really need a mod to enjoy the game.

I've played CW since its release with no mods installed and I enjoy it immensely. YMMV.
