Patrol GRID 0?? Anyone know what this means?

Hello fellow Kaleuns!! I'm running my type XXI in 1939 and on the start of my second patrol I was told to patrol "grid 0". I just assumed it was like "NULL" and didn't think much of it.... until I loaded the game and saw that it said "incomplete"
next to reached and patroled. What gives? Any way to fix this or doesn't it matter?? Any help is appreciated. As always... good hunting!

never had this problem before mate, are you running stock sh3 or grey wolves expansion. it could also be because of another program, like sh3 commander, but i have used sh3 commander without any problems. some one out there will know a fix, good hunting kaptain.

They want you to patrol beyond the "Great Northern Mystery Wall".

Pretty similar to an old thread I remember. Maybe you can make something out of it:

The early XXI mod omitted a few things (like year-appropriate torps). Somewhere in the boat's config file are some settings which will give you a real patrol grid. In any event you can set your own grid using SH3 Commander.

I'm running GWX 2.0 and do not have the Commander mod installed. Is there anyway to go into the .cfg files somewhere and fix this? (where would i go?) Or do it not really matter? Would it be better to start 1939 with a IXD2... at least then would I be assigned patrol grids in 1939?

I picked the XXI in '39 because it has long range (like a type IX) and i figured that it was perhaps the only way I could survive the whole war... since I have yet to do it with the "historically accurate" boats in GWX. But, the IXD2 is also appealing with its long range... I could easily make it to the Canadian coast in '39 and '40, Africa in 1941 and in 1942 I could hunt off the US east coast and the Carribbean.

You won't get the IXD2 in 1939 with GWX. IIRC, the IXD2 becomes available somewhere in 1943. The biggest sub you'll get early in the war is the IXB, in 2nd Flotilla at Wilhelmshaven - still able to reach Canada at economic speed, if that's what you want.

I get this "NULL" sector to patrol when:

I add/remove a mod (I am at my homebase atm)
I refuel and rearm at a friendly port or ship (e.g. Bessel at Vigo ... "das ist in Spanien")

What does it mean?

Simply spoken: you do not get a sector to patrol so you can go hunting freely but also can't get the 500+200 renown from a patrol.

To avoid this (and for all the other specials) I use Sh3 Commander and set the Patrol Sector to my favourite: BF17

Just use SH3 Commander and set your own patrol grid.

The renown for returning to base doesn't work anyway....never has AFAIK http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

I have never tried SH3 Commander. How come everyone seems to be so into it? What advantages does it give you?
I guess I will just have to go into the files -- I think it's the flotilla .cfg-- and change the patrol grid assignments myself. It would probably make sense to just copy the patrol grids for a type IXB from 1939-1943, since it has fairly similar range to a type XXI, right? Any other advice would be appreciated! Oh, and btw, when I mentioned getting a type IXD2 in 1939, I meant after some serious editing to the basic .cfg files LOL! Thanks for all the help so far, Kaleuns!! Put some more Allied merchies on the bottom!! Good hunting!!

I have EXACTLY the same problem 2023. I have looked all over the map, and I can't find a grid 0. Stock sh3 with xx1 sub.
If anyone could give some advice, I would be extremely grateful :Kaleun_Salute:

This is from a older posting by Hebe Vollmaus :

How to force SH3 to give a Zero "0" Grid (Patrol Area)

Hi All,
How to force SH3 to give a Zero "0" Grid (Patrol Area).

Not to confuse "0" with "NULL".
Null - is intended, means You have to go to Homeport.
0 - is Nonsense, means something wrong in Flotilla.cfg, missing PQ-entry, and is not possible to reach since PQ (Planquadrat) 0 does not exist.

This PQ 0 can be shown in unmodified SH3 with a XXI and a Base-Change. Since not all Bases have XXI-entries in all needed times.
To fasten the following Test and make it reproducable a slighter Mod is taken.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Code :

o Make a Backupcopy of your MyDocuments\SH3-folder.
o Delete MyDocuments\SH3-folder.
o Create a clean unmodified SH3 v1.4 (=v1.4b).
o Create a JSGME-mod with Cfg\Basic.cfg and change 3 things,
(this is for speedup to get to the wanted inGame-Date with the needed Boat).
1st: Renown needed for XXI - change Line 3460 "Renown1=30000" into "Renown1=250;30000"
2nd: Days spend GWKapselgeblase - change Line 3978 "DaysSpent=3" into "DaysSpent=456;3"
3rd: Renown for GWKapselgeblase - change Line 3987 "Renown0=500" into "Renown0=250;500"
Activate this Mod.
o Start New Career 1943 Bergen - now is 19430101.
Go to UBoat-Equippment-EngineUpgrade - activate GW Kapselgeblase - now is 19440401.
Go to UBoat-Equippments-UBoatupgrade - change UBoat into XXI - now is 19440429.
Go back to MENU - Wait a minute - Let the Dates changed.
o Start and immediate End Mission 3-times.
(3 mission in-base needed before Base change possible.)
o Logs/Telephone/Transfer to 1st Flotilla
You get: "The Base was changed to: Brest".
o Now is 19440625 - Try Start Mission.
You get: "Grid (Patrol Area) 0"

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

The first useable Month a PQ-Grid for XXI in 1st Flotilla in Year 44 is shown on November 44, which is Nonsens since the Flotilla Ends on 19440930. So you have around 3 Month to play 3 Missions inbetween (not stop and End immediate Mission for Test) to get a chance to run into this.

More or less the same for 2nd and 29th Flotilla.

7th, 10th and 12th OK.

You may ask, what is this all about.
Well, i'm struggling with Flotilla.cfg to find out whats going on.

Greetings.

Hebe Vollmaus

Hope this helps.
