Eschem Schnuz's Letters, 33rd Flotilla
Ballet Conservatory
82 Treuestrasse Spandau, Germany 10 Jun 1945 Dear Onkel Karl, I hope this letter finds you in good health and good spirits. First off, may I offer my congratulations on your appointment as President of Germany. Secondly, may I also offer my eternal gratitude to you for having the courage to end the madness. I wish I could provide you with details concerning myself these last few months, but I'm afraid I don't have my papers with me. Suffice to say, I did all that I could only really do. I brought my boys home. And it is only because of them, that I can write these words to you: Ich lebe. Who knows, we might even live long enough to cross each other's paths again. Best Wishes, Eschem Realism @ 70%, original game specs. Docked at Wilhelmshaven after 6 days. 6 March 1940:
Scharnhorst departs Wilhelmshaven on another raiding mission. Results: Returned to port 9 March 1940 having sunk 27 ships for an impressive 85,117 tons. We were assigned to patrol practically at the entrance to the Channel, and battled the verdammt MTBs for the first 36 hours, having sighted a lone merchant every now and again. However fortune smiled on us when we caught a CONVOY that had just departed Southend and obliterated it - it had one DD as escort, nothing else - and successfully escaped. Upon return to port, Scharnhorst was taken into dockyard and rearmed with three twin 15-inch turrets. :yeah: 2 Large Merchants 1 Large Cargo Ship 1 Empire-type Freighter 4 Medium Cargo Ships 1 Granville-type Freighter 1 Passenger/Cargo Ship 3 Small Merchants 1 Tramp Steamer 1 A/B-class DD 2 J/K-class DDs 1 Tribal-class DD 2 Armed Trawlers 4 ASW Trawlers 3 MTBs |
10 March 1940:
Scharnhorst - newly fitted with twin 15-inch turrets - departs Wilhelmshaven on another raiding mission. Results: Returned to port 14 March 1940, having sunk 10 ships for 28,309 tons. The area N of Scapa Flow was swarming with aircraft, and we managed to bag eight of them before turning for home. My one regret is that there were very few awards to bestow upon our flak gun crews once we got back, but I assured them that they would be first in line to receive the next batch of medals allocated to our boat. 3 Medium Cargo Ships 1 Granville-type Freighter 1 Coastal Tanker 1 Coastal Freighter 7 Swordfish Torpedo Bombers 1 Avro Anson Coastal Patrol Aircraft 3 A/B-class DDs 1 V/W-class DD |
Almost sunk on return approach when we were suprised by 2 freighters and 4 escourts. DDed, fell to 170 meters, emergency surface, on the way up leak was repaired, uncontrolable surfacing, broke water surface, crash dove to 150 meters, repaired damage, and sulked away. All periscopes destroyed as well as radio and the flak guns.
One Large cargo sunk for 12,000 tons. |

After a 4 year break, by cirumstance, ran through all the exams first time through. sank both the escorts first in the sub-school, and finished up by knockin' out all the merchant ships, but the last 2 needed some coaxing from the deckgun.
Started a new patrol, with GWX so did the "5 Day Shakedown" as per the GWX suggestion. Getting ready for my first patrol in Type VIIB, in the "real SHIII world" and we'll soon see if I am still as cunning, and elusive as I was before. *****Note***** I'll probably get my _ _ _ waxed by the escorts the first trip out though. |

Harrassed by the verdammt Elcos and MTBs again, but managed to persevere. Also managed to intercept and slaughter TWO coastal convoys. The CO and crew of Scharnhorst want to thank Herr Churchill for being nice enough to include a Small Tanker in the first convoy and a Large Tanker in the second convoy for us to practice our gunnery on.:D As promised on last patrol, handed more awards and promotions out to the flak gun crews upon return home. 1 Large Tanker 2 Medium Cargo Ships 1 Small Tanker 3 Passenger/Cargo Ships 3 Small Freighters 3 Tramp Steamers 4 Coastal Freighters 2 Black Swan-class Frigates 4 ASW Trawlers 1 Elco-type Torpedo Boat 3 Motor Torpedo Boats |
