British Submarines in the Cold war Era
by Norman Friedman.
If you are searching for a book about the development history of British submarines in the cold war, then this book is exactly what you are looking for.

It is not only about the the technical development but also the underlying requirements and the prevailing strategic thought in the Royal Navy/NATO and the Soviet Navy. Also has a lot information on British torpedoes, sonar and submarine Fire Control Systems.

It is absolutely worth its money!

A top notch book by an top notch author.

I definitely have to grab this one!
It seems more difficult to find good reads on French side of things, and it's really frustrating.

I'd say look at this one: https://www.amazon.fr/REDOUTABLE-LHI.../dp/2357430974

I don't have the book, I saw it at a bookshop years ago and didn't pull the trigger on it back then, which I regret now. The narrative sounds, well, questionable (the Redoutable picks a survivor during her last cruise, the survivor is then used as a stand-in for the reader, he talks with the crewmembers who give him a guided tour) but it really is detailed and goes quite deep in details of both the Redoutable herself and submarine tech in general. The illustrations are really goog, too.
