Need Help with making a mod!!!!

Hello first time modder here and I need help:doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:! Is there anyone who is a major modder who can give me a few pointers. That would be helpful. By the way the mod is a Albacore class attack submarine. :subsim:

Read Sticky at the top:
SH4 Master Thread: Popular Mods, Tools, Technical advice & Tactical tips
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155786

I suggest you start reading Neal Stevens post #1 starting with
Subsim's recommended modding etiquette (please read these guidelines)

you can start by opening up mod files using a syntax editor or notepad and
try to make sense of how it all works by looking into other mods to see how
they did it. like everyone else.

you may want to start reading the [TEC] threads

you may have to use google..

One thing is for sure.. No One here will be contacting you to offer you
their "Mod making expertise Teaching Services"..

this is something you will have to learn by doing yourself by picking up on
what others have done.. and reading tutorials like everyone else.

If you have a 'specific question' about something and get stuck at some
point, you can try to PM a developer, or post it in the forums here
but don't be suprised when no one responds..

It's an old game now & not many Sh4 moders left hanging around to answer them.

Gluck.

this is not true, please do not sell this community short with such comments

while people may not be contacting you unsolicited asking if they can teach you, when you post asking for help in the forums they will be very helpful and willing to go out of their way to take the time to teach you what they know or tell you where to find the info that will teach you what you need to know.

people here on these forums will help you to learn and always be willing to share what they know about the game.

this website has the most helpful and unselfish people I have even met on any forum. they will take the time to respond and teach you what they know because they were treated that way when they learned to mod. passing it on to the next guy is the best way to repay the community that gave so much to us from the beginning.

but.... as I think iyiskipper was trying to say is that YOU have to be willing to make the effort and do the work needed to find your own answers and not expect others to do things for you.
(even though they sometimes might be willing to do that to help you out)

for the most part this is true but if you are stuck, posting in the forum is the best and most likely way to get a reply to your question since many older modders aren't around to respond to a PM message.

more often if no one responds its because they don't understand the question or they don't know how to make the changes someone is looking for. lots of things on peoples "wish lists" cant be done because they are either hard coded or no one has figured it out yet.

do what?

woah holster your weapon there!

..first off, I posted to help the guy.

and clearly It's true that no one will be contacting him to offer him help
if he specifically does not explain what he needs help with..

the guys plainly stated send me pointers..so I tried to give him pointers.

I am well aware of what takes place here, been here since 2001
under other user names.. always been kind to people and always
helpful when I can.

Not sure why you busted in the door to quote me & not help him..
but your the Admin so I guess you have to stomp people into their
place by correcting those who seem to get out of place now and again?

*shakes head*

I posted to help the guy as well and to give him advice

your post was mostly good accurate info as I pointed out, except for the points I made to differ

I have to stand up for Webster here. He's just saying that we tend to be a lot friendlier than to just say, "You're on your own, Bub." Cooperation between modders is a long-standing tradition here and anyone not here when LeoVampire was modding might not understand how deep that tradition is.

Rather than one giant team of modders who sucked all the oxygen out of the air, SH4 modders elected to go with smaller mods by less coordinated people: and extremely decentralized modding system that relied on voluntary friendliness between modders. There are disadvantages to that strategy which can only be mitigated by extreme cooperation and sharing between modders. And that's what happened here.

Webster was one of those and those of us who got to participate in any role (I was just an instigator and mosquito) resent any implication that we wouldn't share anything we've done.

Popeye, why can't you take private messages? My missions should work in any mod configuration as I think anything made in mission editor will work with stock and all mod configurations are compatible with that
