@Alpheratz. Thank you for adding the moon. I wrote my own table for the moon but I will use yours. Correction for refraction is cumbersome but seems fully correct

Nice to hear from you Vecko! Stay healthy, best wishes and energy for the rl!:salute:

@Vertigooo,
I see that you understand how laborious work it is, and all the more I am pleased that you appreciated it. To use my moon spreadsheet, remember to also use the moon special almanac that I have compiled. The astronomical center of the moon does not coincide with the graphic center of the moon in SH5, and I took this discrepancy into account when compiling the almanac. It is not included in 2.2.24 TWoS, but you can find it from the link in my signature.

Ship's speed

it seems I found a small 'discrepancy' with ships .cfg files (data/Sea).

the following 3 ships (I guess imported from SH3): NLTSf, NLTSf2, NOM_Paula have unit type 108 (Small/Medium Freighter), but are being displayed as Tankers in Recognition Manual.

This is easily fixed by making simple changes in .cfg files, but I think in TWOS we must have either correct unit type, or correct RecManualCategory description :Kaleun_Wink:

This is type VIIa and hopefully there is a file where you can set the correct speed

the point was not with VIIa, but with the ships I mentioned.
I don't know why there was such a setup in TWOS.

It's ok. Campaign files use unit type to determine which ships can be used in which groups (convoys). In stock game, this didn't matter much, but in TWoS sea traffic is set to be as realistic as possible and this means many more group types and more complicated rules as to what ships they can use. Since there's no possibility of creating new unit types, vdr1981 had to creatively use existing unit types for new purposes.

In TWoS, Type 108 is used for all small to medium cargo ships and tankers, that are used in small, less escorted or coastal convoys and traffic. Thanks to it, you won't see 10000 ton tanker or troop transport sailing in small unescorted group. This has nothing to do with ship recognition, only with telling program which convoys is this ship allowed to spawn in.

TL,DR: this is intentional, look for recognition manual category for recognition purposes and leave unit types as they are if you don't want to screw group composition in convoys.

hi kapuhy,

thanks for your detailed answer!:salute:
Only changed the description for recognition manual, since the ships I mentioned are freighters, not tankers.

p.s. as fas as I see, all tankers in TWOS are under Type 101 (except for coastal ones, which are referred to 'Coastal vessels' unit category).

NLTSf, NLTSf2, NOM_Paula? These are tankers, all three.

Most are Type 101 (Tanker) - these would be showing up in large convoys that could historically have tankers in them (oil supply convoys for example). Type 108 (those you mentioned) in small, less protected convoys (along with small freighters). Type 104 tankers are coastal tankers that are not usually protected and are too small and slow to sail in convoys. You can spot them along the coast together with other small ships like fishing boats or coasters.

thank you!!
in such case, maybe it makes sense to slightly correct Type 108 category name: "Small/Medium Freighter/Auxiliary Tanker"

It does, though in the end it's for vdr1981 to decide.

Hello, I have a question regarding editing my captain's rank in-game.

So, KSD Commander says that my captain has the rank of Kapitanleutnant, but the crew menu in-game says I'm an Oberleutnant. I'm curious as to how I could edit the game files to reflect my true rank.

Thank you for reading this and taking the time to respond to it.
