Circlerunning Torpedo

Hi Guys

I just got sunk in the training mission by my own torpedo. I know the US had some problems with "circlerunners" in the war, but hadn't heard of anything like that for german subs. It was a standard TIG7a steam-powered, no seeker head. Came out of the tube, ran two circles on the surface, and hit me the second time.

Bug or design feature?

Interesting, hadn't heard that german torps did the same thing on occasion. I thought UBI might have left US-Torp behaviour in the U-Boat addon, but it was fun either way.

There are some u-boats believed to have been sunk by their torpedoes by circular runs...

But their fates are now being attributed to being sunk by Allied warships...

Steel Boats, Iron Hearts (book by Hans Goebeler and John Vanzo) tells that once U-505 (after it's faithfull encounter with a bomb that tore the 37mm AA gun from it's deck) tried to fire one of it's torpedoes but the "eel" hit their own hull and luckily failed to detonate. So, either by damage or other issues, i'm pretty sure it can happen.

Nice touch of realism by Devs. :yep: Alot of German records went down with the boat.
