Looking for a good FW 190 kit - help needed!

Hi guys. A colleague of mine has decided to take early retirement (the lucky bugger) and his last day will be on the 17th. Being a bit of an onery old git, he has made our manager swear not to get him anything. Thing is, Bill has, very kindly, given most of us stuff over the years, in my case a couple of books and a beautiful Hellcat kit (that I have still to build....) and I'd like to repay the favour somewhat.

He has a real fascination and love of the FW 190 so what I'm looking for is a very good quality kit that I can get him. I'm not worried about the particular mark of 190, nor will I worry too much about the price while I'm just looking. Likewise, the actual scale is secondry to the quality. Bill is an experienced modeller so anything in the realm of 'advanced' is fine. A final couple of points is that I would probably need to order this from somewhere I can get it online and on time before the 17th here in Britain.

I know that there are a few of you who really know this stuff inside out. I haven't a clue (another reason why the Hellcat is still in it's box,) and would really appriciate some help getting this together. I might post this over at SimHQ as well as I know they have quite an active model building fraternity as well.

Cheers guys, looking forward to seeing your suggestions.

You say scale isn't important, but if he's got a huge collection of 1/48 scale stuff you don't want to get 1/72!

As well as SimHQ you may want to take a peek at britmodeller.com and ask there.

It's been a while since I last made a model, but the best manufacturer I found (or rather, could afford) was Hasegawa - in the intervening years I don't know if they've changed their quality?

Good luck

Their 1/72nd scale Harrier kits were very nice. I would recommend them.

Tamiya is reported to have a very nice FW kit.

Drangon tend to be good, I have not tried any aircraft from them though. My Academy Super Etendard and BF-109G-6 looks like a nice kit but I have yet to build them.

Revell and Italeri are just ok, Airfix tend to be poor to ok depending on age.

EDIT: Avoid anything that says Kangram or PM Models.
