RIP Tom "CaptainCruise" Pappaceno

I'm sorry to bring bad news. I saw on FB today that one of our long time members passed suddenly today. CaptainCruise joined Subsim on March 27, 2002. He only had 141 posts but was one of guys from the SH2/DC days, a very positive guy, and he will be missed. I got an email from him every year, and he was always full of good humor and thoughtfulness.

My mom, me, and my longtime girlfriend Jennie Munger Harrison were with him when he passed.
Tom was one of the most outgoing and entertaining guys I’ve ever met. He was an avid Mets fan (I was a Yankees fan which, you can imagine, led to some lively debates in our household). He was the captain of a fishing boat and was born to be on the water.

Take a minute to post and reflect. Thank you.

Neal

CaptainCruise, may your eternal cruise be smooth sailing with fair winds.

I didn't know him, but I hope that by "sudden" it means that he did not suffer.

A wise man taught that the idea of the 'self' is an illusion. Nothing has any meaning without the context of everything else. This means that there really is no 'you' or 'me' ... there is only 'us'. So, even if I didn't know him, I have lost a part of myself. We all have.

Rest in peace, Captain. I shall raise a pint to you tonight. Fair winds and following seas!

I had noticed him for sure but we did not have any contact. All the same, I'm very sad to hear this news

Edit: ah yes, I recently found myself wondering about his "Cruiser's Crunchy Egg Salad", that was it...

Sad to hear this, he always stood out as being upbeat and positive. His presence will be missed.

I'm very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. We talked a little bit and exchanged posts in the forum's. He started the thread on " Open letter to the NFL players...read and share"

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=233943

I rallied around him when he thought his thread wasn't well received. I think Tom found just the opposite as his thread was thought provoking and people had varying opinions on the NFL player situation but largely felt " Captain Cruise " posted a timely thread and great posts. I found Tom to be very intelligent and thoughtful and I was looking forward to more posts and threads from Capt. Cruise as he was always a genuine and sincere guy and knew the Importance of family. As Bandit and Neal said, he was a positive and upbeat guy who looked for the best in everyone and everything.

Tom was a great and welcome addition to Subsim and his loss will be keenly felt.

To Michael Pappaceno and your mom and Jennie Munger Harrison and family. We are very sorry for your loss but please know we are keeping you and your family and Tom in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in Peace my friend.

I started hanging around here in the later SH2 / DC days, and was always impressed with the hospitality displayed by him (and a lot of other noteworthy members).
