Possible ?

Thinking to add the fog of war would be nice to remove the ship sunk log entries while at sea,. Only have the log back at base once . Believe this would add the fog of war, especially if remove the ship ID button.

i have no clue how to do this or if it is possible. Perhaps hardcoded? Anyone?

well, let's think about it.
which CFG, MIS, UPC file controls what is recorded as a kill?
no, wait! which file controls the little red sunk ship icon that appears on the Nav board? this is a graphic file of some kind so you probably could "blank it out" such that no sunken ships would appear......
however, the kill would still be logged and available to be seen in the Captain's Log of Kills.
i do not believe that you can interrupt the kill-log-process without having access to the source code.

the fog of war is being scared s&itless but doing your job anyway.:timeout::timeout::timeout::timeout:

just play and have fun and forget the fog of war.:Kaleun_Salute:

Yes, could not find contorls figured it was hard coded.

Well, fog of war in submarine sense was the unknown. Many times certain ships were claimed sunk and were mistaken for other classes or claimed sunk and were not and vice versa. One example I recall is Flying Fish attacking Yamato and identifying her as a Nagato Class because under pressure in the moment, the fog of war takes over. Also, don't believe the rec manuals had Yamato Class yet but they were aware of them. Adm Galatin in his book "Take Her Deep!" describes in detail his attack in HALIBUT in Oct 44 where he attacked and sunk what he thought was Ise Class BB but was in fact a Oyodo CL.

So given that, like other players have spoken with, the god like information cuts into the challenge sometimes. So not having official confirmation of sinking until arriving back at base really would add a certain element. The unknown is part of what keeps this sim interesting.

I believe it was RFB had the ship sunk message delayed until absolute last minute somehow, not sure its been years since ran RFB.

this effect is probably due to RFB having a more "realistic" damage models for its ship models.

a while back WernerSobe u/l a natural sinking mod which required more than one hit to different areas of the target and primarily uses flooding rather than explosion to have a ship sink. from what i understand about it, the mod re-defines the damage model.

RFB probably uses either the mod itself or has implemented the same technique.

It's somewhat hard-coded and I believe it has been removed before. There should be a way of removing it, if you find the string in whichever file it lives and replacing that string with nothing or spaces. There are other tells though, like being unable to lock a sunk target. Not much of an issue if you are in manual though. The other alternative is to completely redo all of the damage zones for all the ships and that's not something you want to do.

EDIT: If you replace with spacesm you may still get a giveaway blank line. Maybe removing the string completely would work.

Hi,

some time ago I made a mod in this direction for SH3. My guess is that something similar should be also possible for SH4.

Hi LGN1, thanks for that. It's been a (very long) while since I have looked at SH4. That should work for you Bubblehead.

I am not sure how I missed this so long ago. Thank you, I will give it a try.
