Question About CW's AI

Using Cold Waters with the latest (and apparently, final) version of DotMod.

Is there any way of configuring the AI so that the newer American submarines don't ping away on active when firing a torpedo? IMO this is one of the stupidest things about what is otherwise an excellent game.
US SSN attack doctrine relies heavily on passive sensors. If they got a solution and released a weapon using only passive sensors, they won't suddenly start blasting the waters with active when launching a torpedo. Just keep listening quietly and steer the torpedo home.

Soviet subs tended to use active sensors much more aggressively, both in searching for and tracking a target, especially when working in packs and in conjunction with surface units. But even they would stick to passive sensors if a situation allowed for it, particularly when working alone and in a newer boat.

This always bothered me about CW. It's gotten so that if I'm playing a Soviet unit and I get shot at - which I know because the American sub which I never detected will suddenly start lighting up the seas with active - I force myself to ignore it until sonar hears the torpedo. It helps, but the immersion is already on life support at that point.

I'm actually considering removing active sonar from some of the later American and Soviet/Russian submarines in the vessel database. The passive sensors will be feeding in data long before you're in pinging range of anything. And I don't ever recall using active in an American boat anyway.

Sorry for this turning in to a rant, lol.

Thanks.

you may want to explore the game's modding community to see if there are any existing mods or user-created modifications that address the issue you mentioned. Modding communities often develop tweaks and modifications to enhance gameplay or customize certain aspects of games.

Well, that only happens because when you play against US boats, you're playing a mod that I guess is basically just switching the clothes on the internal game code. The game was only designed from the get-go to play as US boats against Soviet/Chinese boats. Whether that can be changed is beyond me but seeing as the mods haven't done it, it may be fixed.
