USN to buy Polish sub for training

2 Attachment(s)
The US Navy has announced that it will buy the Polish submarine Orzel when she retires from service

Built in Russia the boat will be used for training and evaluation for the USN over the next decade

Orzel will be the second Russian built vessel to be bought by the USN

"For training"...? That needs a training crew operating the sub then. I pass.

After being decommissioned in the meantime, the Orzel was reactivated in 2016 and is still in service in 2021. The commander in 2006 was "kmdr ppor" Andrzej Ogrodnik.

The crew members warned in an anonymous open letter in May 2021 that the submarine was "in a deplorable technical condition, and any voyage may end with sinking and with our deaths". During one maneuver, he said, there were problems with surfacing, propulsion, sonar, communications and armament. It was "a miracle that the Eagle is still afloat." Five years ago, the boat was returned to service "despite our protests."

Maybe it’s true the Orzel is in deplorable condition but so what? We now own it and have the tech and know how to learn more about it and confirm the reports HUMINT already working for us revealed. Which in turn can give us a better understanding what changes may have been made or are being made to the next project. Who knows we may find something we can use to identify and sink a Russian next gen sub before they even know what hit them.

As long as it is an engineering exploration in the dry dock, fine. But testing it in operation? It has the odor of a Himmelfahrtskommando, hasnt it? :D

Himmelfahrtskommando = Suicide Squad :hmmm:

Aye :yep:

:)

I went on Orzel in 2019 and she put to sea too, was in a decent condition despite her age the only issue they had was the fire control system which is from Lockheed Martin it didn't function properly.

As for the post itself it was just a bad April fools :D

I wanted to do something much bigger but didn't get the time.
