Reserves for what? Not torpedoes, certainly. They were stored horizontally, and would be longer than the boat is tall if they tried to store them vertically.

They could be where you load the fish into it, because I've never heard of a u-boat having life raft canisters.

There was only a single loading hatch forward, and another aft.

I took a quick look in my copy of Conways' Anatomy of the Ship: The Type VII U-Boat, and it does indeed confirm it.
