I have had similar challenges. Three pieces of advice I can offer:

1) Minimize ambient room lighting with curtains etc. Or play only during night.
2) Modify gamma.
3) Download a periscope filter mod.

As mentioned realistically speaking on some engagements it was too dark even to engage. Especially if you use an attack periscope instead of closing on the surface with UZO/bino/bare eyes.

Stay surfaced. If it’s a small boat, use the deck gun, as torpedoes will just pass underneath it. If it’s a ship, use torpedoes aimed from the UZO (the binoculars on the bridge). If your target is escorted, turn away at flank speed as soon as your torpedoes leave the tube.

A nighttime submerged attack against an unescorted convoy is an unorthodox but potentially rewarding tactic if you attack from point-blank range.

Submerged attacks against escorted convoys aren’t recommended due to the fact that escorts can easily find you with sonar, and you can’t get away easily due to your low submerged speed.

don't rush in get much of a picture has you can if its a convoy or single if convoy or multi-ship how is the escorts acting how much light is showing early years no radar don't get glue to the uzo a u-boat is low in the water can be hard to spot if done right you can get into the middle of the convoy then stand on it fire at juicy targets all eels without turning but when them eels starts nailing the targets all cane going break out just watch out for merchants with deck guns sometimes the escorts will fire at you and hit the merchants or each other but have a escape plan ready never i repeat never dive unless you have too and if you do dive has soon has your under do a hard rudder over them escorts going be looking where you went under and the direction you was going if done right you be out of the area they going be looking and don't stay under longer than you need too

Hey Friend, cool. Yeah (1) works but still I feel it's hurting my eye.

2. Modify Gamma - Which CFG file I need to edit? does the tutorial available in this forum?

3. Download a periscope filter mod. - Are you talking about green crosshair in the periscope?

Thanks.

2) Check the game video settings. If gamma is not there, check graphics card settings.

3) Check here https://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=164812

Nights in TWOS are really dark. And moonless nights so much so that I often have to hide my hud (shift+z, I think) in order to see. And playing in a dark room is a must for me.

But if under such conditions you still don't see then you may try to customise night filter on your periscope which helped me see better in pitch black nights.

Here is a link to a post on this forum where it is explained how to do it.

Hi captain21!

I hope you got it sorted out with the night vision filter but just in case:

I noticed in TWOS-JSGME there is an optional mod called 'Brighter Nights' which I personally don't use but it might further help with the issue.

Good luck!

Hi friends,

I have installed TWoS. During the night time when I see it in the periscope I see nothing but pitch black. Even when I increase the monitor brightness, I see everything look brighter but the view in periscope still look darker.

I understand in real life it will be dark in the periscope view during night. However, I see this is unrealistically too dark. And put this to not playable at all.

Please help me friends.!!! I love SH series. I am so worried. Please what I can do for it?

In 2019, I created a weather modification that had bright nights. In the near future, I will release such a modification in a new edition.
