Interestingly enough: back in the 1980s the people from Ostfriesland were the butt of many German jokes making fun of how stupid they (allegedly) are. This only changed with the Mantafahrer jokes, which were basically the same jokes aiming at a different group of people (the drivers of Opel Mantas).
