Downloads and daily allowed download amount
If you have received a message "Sorry! You have exceeded your daily allowed download amount" it is because one of these things:

You have hit download limit for the day. We have a limit because with hundreds of members downloading every day, it can get pretty expensive for us.

Become an officer in the Subsim Navy here and have your download limit increased to 25, 35 or even 60 a day!

A website this big uses a lot of bandwidth and needs a really powerful server to stay online day after day, for 18 years. Thanks for the support!

Downloads here are available and free, but the website bandwidth is not limitless, and that is not free. Download some mods, come back tomorrow and get some more.

When you sign up to Subsim, we encourage you to be an active member of the forum community. That means making at least 1 post and introduce yourself. You, you're an interesting guy--you like submarine games, history, and computers. We want you to be part of the Subsim crowd.

OR: The Downloads section may have been automatically disabled by the system due to abuse from spammers signing up numerous accounts and flooding the server.

How can I upload an image to Subsim and then add it to a post?
Pretty easy! Follow this simple How to guide

I lost my password, what do I do?

Why can I not post? Why can I not view a forum? Why can I not search?
When you filled out the info and registered for a user account here, you were told an email was dispatched to the e-mail account you used to register, with details on how to activate your account.

***BE SURE TO SET UP YOUR SPAM FILTER OR ANTI-SPAM SERVICE (Earthlink, etc) TO ACCEPT E-MAIL FROM SUBSIM@SUBSIM.COM You will receive a confirmation email from this forum to your inbox. You MUST follow the link in that email and activate your account before you can post on these forums. Until you do that, you will be told that you do not have permission to post.

If you do not receive the confirmation e-mail after 8 hours, contact the Admin and be sure to state your username and e-mail.

If you have been a member a long time, and you've never posted, or have not posted in a long time (years), then your account may have been automatically suspended. Solution: make a post somewhere in the forum, for example the Comment to SUBSIM forum--introduce yourself. This post will be placed in the moderation que, and within 24 hours or less the forum will automatically enable posting and downloads for you again. We have to do this to prevent spammers from joining, waiting a few months and then bombarding the forum with ads for Vie-g-ra, etc.

I've registered onto the forum and for some reason I can't post anything because I "don't have the privilege".... What is going on?
An e-mail is sent to the e-mail address you used when registering. You activate your account by clicking on a link in the e-mail. You must use a valid e-mail address to have an account with this forum.

Can I search the forum?
Hell yeah! You can search for posts based on username, word(s) in the post or just in the subject, by date, and only in particular forums.

To access the search feature, click on the "search" link at the top of most pages.

You can search any forum that you have permission to search - you will not be allowed to search through private forums unless the administrator has given you the necessary security rights to do so.

What role do Subsim forum moderators play?
Subsim forums allow a wide range of discussion freedom but there are limits. Moderators volunteer to see that the forums do not descend into chaos and anarchy and that the rules are adhered to. Members should not publicly attack a Moderator or intentionally undermine a Moderator's actions by baiting or harrassing him.

It is okay for a member to publicly ask a Moderator why an admonishment was issued or why a post was censored. Do not seek to argue endlessly over it.

If a member wishes to challenge a Moderator action that involves the member, this challenge must be raised in private via PM or email, not in public.

How can I become a Radio Room moderator?
Radio Room moderators are chosen by the admin based on the content of a user's discussions, how often the user posts, and his degree of diplomacy and friendliness. Please do not e-mail the moderators or admins and nominate yourself. If you have to ask to become a moderator, you will dequalify yourself from consideration.

How do I change my rank?
Ranks appear below your username in topics and your rank is represented by the avatar. Subsim forums use a special system for ranking based on your activity, quality of your posts, and general usefulness. You may not change the rank or avatar. Please do not abuse the board by posting unnecessarily just to increase your rank -- you will find the rank system will simply lower your post count. Legitimate posts are welcome.

How does the ranking system work?
The Subsim Forums ranking system is explained in this thread in the Comments To Subsim forum.

I see some guys with a custom avatar, how do I get one?
Special rank and avatar is available to members who make a donation to the Subsim forum. If every member requested a special rank, it would overwhelm the moderators, plus it wouldn't be very special then, would it? If you would like more info, see this thread in the Comments To Subsim forum.

I like this website, how can I show support for all Subsim.com does?
By all means, visit the Subsim Store if you're new to SUBSIM Review and check out the games, DVDs, movies, and books. Buying a game through the store costs you nothing extra but it provides the necessary funds to keep us online. We also gladly accept donations! Contributors will receive access to receive our premium Bonus Mods downloads. We can't do this without your support. Thanks!

Personal avatar, signatures, image faqs
A friendly reminder, please keep your signature images to a reasonable size, no larger than 220 high, 640 wide. Max file size is 200KB. Sigs that are political or religous in nature may only be displayed in General Topics. Only naval-oriented sigs are allowed in the naval and game forums.

Warning: Signatures that exceed the stated limits may be removed without warning.
