- SH 3 FERNGLAS Mod - v. S & W -
[SH3 Fernglas Mod, Version Schwarz & Weiss]
Hintergrund: [English below]
(7Z - 513 KB)

Dazu siehe näheres unter 2-Readme-Installation a.E..
Due to the intention to „improve the realism“ the GWX-Mod has cancelled the graduation in the binoculars.
The reason should be that a lookout in the nock or on the bridge has no graduation in his field glass and
beyond this a feeling for the direction a contact is located.
May be that was well meant but this „realism“ seemed to be never been on sea. Of course binoculars have no
graduation and undoubtedly a lookout has a feeling for the direction; this because he knows whether he is
looking to port or starboard, where „his“ machine noises are coming from or where bow and stern are.
Insofar I do agree with Rafael, who reactivated the graduation in his Mod [GWX - Rafael DSK GUI (updated)],
with the reason that one who is sitting in front of a screen hasn't feelings like this. The same opinion
represents danlisa [GWX Gold Bino Mod]. For the obvious lack of graduation in the binoculars he suggested
as compromise with his Mod to replace the exact graduation by using the cardinal points of the compass.
Well, but these are revolving like the scale 0-360 and therefore more irritating than helpful I think.
Using the field glasses without any help to the theme direction is – as previously said – under the special
condition „outlook at the screen“ not acceptable. Tu use the full graduation as usually is too much of a good
thing. Further is to be considered in my opinion that outlook reports – certainly in the naval forces – have
been made by describing the ships side with colour green or red and giving a number of degrees in steps of
each 10.
Therefore I've solved the problem by changing the graduation in the direction that the shown scale in the
binoculars started at 0 (boat's heading) and left and right steps of 10 degrees increasing up to 170; Astern is00. The binoculars design like this seemed to be the best compromise in regard of historical correctness on
one hand and practical help for orientation – especially during hustleing convoy battles.
In a second step I intend as final version to dye this „labelling“ in green for starboard and red for port;
provided that I will find someone who can tell me how to..?
Hope you will enjoy it. (7Z - 513 KB)

P.S.: Of course it can and will be helpful to change the graduation of the air targeting periscope as well. This is
possible. For details see the 2-Readme-installation instructions at the end.
