In the 'Das Boot' movie, one guy drinks evaporated milk with lemon juice. Has anyone here ever tried it, and if so, how do you mix it?

Wow! Here's a guy who really puts himself into the game! Jake, you da Man!
Too bad about Fulham, though.

Don't feel too bad for Fulham. We'll be back up. We dropped the first match to Ipswich, but we should beat Millwall at the Cottage.
As for the drink; I think it sounds good.

1/2 cup NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
1/2 cup cold water
1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
Directions:
If you do not have buttermilk on hand, you can substitute sour milk made with CARNATION Evaporated Milk (Regular, Lowfat or Fat Free).
MEASURE evaporated milk into glass measuring cup. Add water and vinegar; stir. Let stand for 5 minutes before using it in a recipe. Goes good with a Hamm's chaser!:Kaleun_Cheers: http://www.meals.com/ImagesRecipes/32095lrg.jpg

Being German, you probably wouldn't consider Hamm's to be beer. But over here, we like the stuff. Actually, Hamm's beer is meh (IMO). It's Hamm's bear that I like.:rotfl2:

I have a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask and Lagavulin on hand for just the occasion.

As was apparently the case from time to time on the long U-boat missions? From a review of Battle Beneath the Waves : "We also get a glimpse of the snafus that plagued the German forces just as surely as they did the Allies, when we learn that most of one crew came down with scurvy during a long mission because they were mistakenly supplied with a much smaller quantity of vitamin tablets than their health required." http://www.uboat.net/media/men/commanders/kentrat3.jpgKorvettanKapitän Kentrat after his longest patrol of the war-225 days-hardly profitable IMHO-only two ships sunk...he looks decidedly malnourished here.
The daily squeezing of the lemons, something of a ritual aboard long haul U-boats. Crews haunted by images of wasted, toothless ghouls painfully gumming the hard Kommissbrot...
Everyone aboard has his own way of downing the stuff.
The Chief cuts his lemon in two, methodically stabs each cell (as if this task will take him all night), then places a small lump sugar into each, and then noisily sucks the juice through the sugar. Sloppy. No regard for manners.
The Second watch officer has hit upon a particularly ingenious idea. He squeezes the lemon juice into a glass, mixes it with some sugar, and then pours in a measure of condensed milk. The milk curdles the instant it touches the lemon juice and the whole thing looks absolutely revolting. It makes the Old Man shudder, every time, but the 2WO pays it no mind. He proudly calls this concoction the U-Special, and asks if the rest of us are jealous. He then slowly swallows this 'drink' rolling his eyes in 'ecstasy'...
