View Full Version : Ketchup with your coffee?
From Dowly's neck of the woods
Eating tomato ketchup every day can significantly help your heart, according to new research. Tests carried by Finnish scientists show Britain's favourite sauce could be good for the heart by attacking 'bad' cholesterol, known as low-density lipoprotein.

One problem I have with such stzudies, that they are extremely focussed onto one thing, leave out other things for the sake of being focussed on just one thing, and by that focussing on one thing (maybe two ;) ) they completely miss systemical interactions and links with other factors. That way, the study probably saw some things from the Tomatoes, but missed the very high content of sugar, salt, etc.
a study being done with a focus on sugar or salt, maybe would warn you to eat ketchup, but like the first study would recommend to drink tomato juice. and a third study focussing on sunburning maybe would complain about tomatoes having no positive effect of preventing them. :-?
as one of my professors used to say back in those days: "conduct examinations with sharper and sharper tools and methods - and you end up with finally finding just anything, even unimportant things, non-harming somethings, no matter how useless the finding is."
On TV they once showed an indian study, financed by an Indian business man, who used cow's excrement to dry it, pulverize it until it was fine as powder and looked like cinamon, and then to sell it pure, or using it as main ingredient for: hair shampoo. anti aging cream. And, best of all, tooth powder - what he demonstrated himself, rubbing the light brown powder in his mouth and over his teeth. :dead: Really, just dried, pulverized cow excrement, nothing more done to it.
He complained that he found it difficult to raise a market in the West. :dead:
P.S. nice signature quotes, Steed - just noted them.

Indeed, that's a major problem in epistemology.
Focusing on only part of a issue always leads you astray. Example (http://www.netreach.net/%7Erjones/no_dhmo.html)
Whilst trying to take a broad view of a issue is riddled with subjectivity. Example (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=175)
(no, the second link isn't broken)
It's the same benefit you get from eating a tomatoe. I heard about the apparent benefits a few years back, it makes me feel better when bitting into a meat pie. :yep:
It has been scientifically proven that if you smoke one cigarette every day for a hundred years you will live to be an old man... !
Them being Finns explains it all; they were drunk. :yep:

For those that have to suffer eating 4 and 20 meat pies back in Oz then tomatoe sauce (ketchup) by the bucket load is essential. ;) Oh yeah and the scientists now say it is really good for you. Ketchup that is.

Most likely in Tallinn and making a lot of noise after staggering from one pub to the next.:shifty:

There needs to be a study to find one sober person in Finland. ;)

There are plenty of sober people in Finland, they cross the bay and come here to drink :know:
