NYGM - Hull integrity display missing

Hi,

after taking a break from SHII for a lengthly period of time I have come back to it again and am really enjoying the NYGM mod. My first exit from port was a completely different experience and made it less like the ghost towns of before.

Now... excuse me if this has been answered before, I have done a few searches (and quickly read the manual) and can't find the answer:

Last night while playing with a destroyer I suffered some damage from DC's and also hitting the sea bed. Despite doing repairs, the only way I could get off the bottom was to blow ballast. At this point I could see no visual display of any flooding and there is no Hull integrity display. On the surface I was fine, but as soon as I dived to periscope depth I sank straight to the bottom again.

Is this a feature? Should I be able to view the Hull Integrity and flooding?

thanks for a) A superb mod and b) your answer.

regards,

/Mad

R U using SH3 Commander? If so, you can change the settings in SH3 Options/Text Settings.

No, I just copied the files over by hand.

I will d/l SH3 Commander and install that. Have heard good reports of it.

thanks for your help,

:yep: and :yep:

If your Boot suffered enough damage to its hull, I may be that it is rendered unable to dive. This is a common thing. This is why a U-Boot was helples once a Shell or Bomb damaged the hull real good! In your case the DC punding or the hit or the seabed!
And one Boot that can't dive can't hide underwater!:know:

If you try, well you sink like a stone!

If a boot is rendered unable to dive....well you know how most U-Boot stories end;)

Oh, and the People aboard could only estimate the Hulls integrity, the real number they only got when they made it home in a drydock!

Welcome to the U-Boot war her Kaleun!:rotfl:

Lack of Hull Integrity on the crew management screen?

Yes, that's a 'feature' of NYGM imported from its predecessor RUb (Beery's Real U-boat).

The presence or absence of this item on the screen has been the subject of much discussion. Some say that the crew would not know of the extent of hull damage during depth-charging (true). Others counter-argue that the crew would have a good idea of hull damage after they surfaced and inspected the hull (also true).

There is no middle solution. I personally would prefer to see the hull damage shown, but was outvoted by other NYGM team members.

If you want an easy fix, find your file:
silenthunteriii\data\menu\en_menu.txt
then scroll down to the command "589=".
Change this to "589=HULL INTEGRITY %s %" (without the quotes).

[I hope you can read the line above OK. The right-hand entries are meant to be percentage signs. On my screen, they look like '96'. Best thing is to cut-and-paste from this post.]

Don't forget to make a back-up copy of the original en_menu.txt file first.

Stiebler.

Thank you Stiebler,

I will edit the file.

I can see the arguement from both sides. Having been away from SHIII for a while I think I would like to see it, at least until I get back into the swing of things.

NYGM is very good, I appreciate the work that has gone into it, and even the documentation has taken a lot of work.

thanks,

/Mad
